5 Free Onsite Alternatives to Paid Code Bootcamp

By on

I don’t see the following alternatives mentioned in many blogs or posts. Maybe because they are new or highly selective. But if you don’t want to shell out 10K for coding bootcamps, or you have finished some sort of bootcamp, and want to continue learning, then try these. Yup, they are all onsite.

  1. Hackerschool
This is a 3-months retreat for more experienced coders in NYC (although they do take new developers, but this is an exception rather than the norm). They give you a stipend to code if you are a minority and a women.

  2. CodePath
iOS and Android development and design classes in the SF bay area. Weekly classes run at night. Geared toward mid-level developers. Class starting this February, 2015.

  3. TechSF at BAVC
They offer 1000–3000 dollars worth of scholarship for courses at academyx

  4. GirlsDevelopIt
They have short two-days or one-day work shops and offer scholarships to women.

  5. AppAcademy
While not technically free, I put this here because they offer a unique zero-entry fee payment plan. You pay tuition only after you have a job, and nothing before. According to their fine print, “the fee is 18% of your first year salary, payable over the first 6 months after you start working.” Admission is competitive.
