It finally arrived! yes yes yes YES! My own little microcomputer! The Raspberry Pi is a small computer–smaller than your iphone, all for around 40 bucks. But it is much more than that, since I am excited to make my own web server and Dropbox clone on this little guy. I can do anything from making a multi-emulator retro game system, to hacking Kindleberry Pi screen. This Pi is amazzzzzing! I am a total noob but there is a huge Pi community and support for starting with a Pi.
I am following the Lynda tutorial of Raspberry Pi with Mark Niemann-Ross (it’s only an hour long). Check out the quick intro video here.

Kindleberry Pi anyone? I will tackle this project first, since I have two old kindles laying around the house and what a great way to recycle them. In terms of productivity for coding, the kindle is not the best screen if you have a computer nearby. However, I think there’s a potential for writers and people traveling abroad. The kindle’s screen reduces eye strain and the battery lasts more than two weeks. My writer friends would love to see how this turn out. I cannot think of a perfect set up for creative writing on the Kindleberry.
Of course, my inspiration comes from Damaru on ponnuki.net. Here is what Damaru did:

What a great little fun machine to test out some ruby irb on the terminal.
I’ll put an update on my own Paperwhite kindle. Hopefully I know what I am doing and won’t brick the darn thing.
And there is this Gameboy hack on the Raspberry Pi:

These two projects will keep me busy for a while….
